Looks like my dad has to give up riding.
some of you may remember that he had a heart attack a couple of months ago. well, as it turns out, his heart will never work more then 35% ever again. Has to be on blood thinners the rest of his life.
now, if he so much as bruises or cuts himself, he bleeds out. So, Bikes are out.
Raise a glass, one less rider today.

Sorry to hear that, man. Best wishes for your family.

Being alive with 35% heart function is an accomplishment all on its own. He doesn’t need a bike to be a badass.

SOMETHING was watching him that day. Doc had said he had never seen anyone suffer such a massive heart attack and live.
Still sucks, it was one of the few things we actually did together.

anything without a cage is out. its not that he cant ride. its the consequences if he crashes (even a small one)

Think of it this way, laying it down could mean one less father, so as much as it sucks, it’s definitely for the best.

Sorry to hear mate...maybe your dad could get a roadster with a bolt in cage and you still have your bike and you could still cruise together...? Not the same, but it would be the closest he could get?

Im going to try and get him.into a morgan 3 wheeler or a caterham.

Campagna TRex as an option as well?

Remember he’s giving up riding for extra time with you. It still sucks, but find him a fun, tossable 4 wheel vehicle. It’s not a bike, but its still fun and you could still ride together. 500 Abarth, Catherham, Exocet, classic Mini or something like that would be entertaining.

Toast to your dad.

That sucks to hear but at least he’s ok. Maybe he can get into a side-by-side for light trail riding?

That means a Miata then?

That is a bummer. Glad he’s OK though
A good friend of mine had to give up riding after a heart attack. He had a massive heart attack at age 30 and was lucky to survive. They had to implant a defibrillator. He recovered miraculously and went back to riding. Nearly a year later the defibrillator went off while he was mowing the lawn and knocked him right on his ass. Once he knew what that felt like, he knew there was no way in hell he could stay up if it went off while riding. He hates not riding, but he likes his son better than riding.

The defib is an option. but my dad soends too much time around EM fields that it eould mean a career change

My dad had a massive heart attack about 3 years ago. He has an ejection fraction of roughly 35% like your dad. Sure if he gets a cut it looks a Charles Manson murder, but he’s fine for the most part. He will adjust and get better. You’d be surprised how well the body can function with a heart that only works to 35% of its potential. Make sure he follows through with cardiac rehab because his heart can get slightly better. Watch his diet and challenge him to be healthy.

Shitty break.
I can understand. Caterham sounds like a blast. or a rotted out corvette with side pipes!

My mom saw that vette.
She asked me to get better friends.

Haha hahaha!
My wife said the same about my friends. she told them to get a better class of friends. if it wasn’t true, I would’ve been offended.

Yeah it’s tough, I grew up on the back of dad’s V45 Magna, but he pretty much stopped riding after he had to toss his bike when someone ran a red light on his way home from work. I miss it, but I’ve got a ton of good memories, and those don’t go anywhere. Go make new ones with your dad in his Caterham.

absolutely - he uses something called Quickclot, http://www.quikclot.com/ . You can get it on Amazon. But I believe several other makers, (including the big Bandaid and Currad wound dressing folks,) make something similar.
